It is difficult, if not
impossible, to think of a relationship of any type that does not
encounter disagreements at one time or another.
Unless relationships are able to withstand the stress involved in
their inevitable conflicts, and manage them productively, they are not
likely to endure. This can
be counterproductive to the achievement of goals.
Using the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Instrument, individuals will
identify their preferred approach to dealing with conflict, learn
conflict management skills, understand the five basic styles for
handling conflict, and implement conflict resolution steps which assist
in preserving relationships. They
will learn how and when each mode is typically most appropriate and
understand how the overuse of one mode can be counter-productive for
themselves and the people around them.
This workshop
assists participants in understanding that all modes are effective, and
that one is not necessarily better than another.
All modes are effective if applied to the appropriate situation
and if used in a balanced way. Attendees will identify their one or two modes that they use
out of habit, and begin to create an action plan to develop using the
other modes interchangeably.
