Seminar Outline

1.   Introduction: Seminar overview. goals, introductions, assumptions, ground rules. 

2.   Why Improve: Developing arguments for proactively improving processes company wide 

3.   Learning to See Problems and Opportunities: practice and discussion of the role of perception and assumptions in problem solving 

4.   Process Improvement Fundamentals: Process flowchart components and practice 

5.   Process Mapping: Flowcharting troublesome company processes  

6.   Problem Solving Techniques: Introduction and study of a number of techniques to assist teams to search for and recognize sources of process problems. 

7.   Planning Projects: Leadership and Guidance Team work to develop company wide improvement capability; components of company environment that supports process improvement  

8.   Selecting Projects: Leadership and Guidance Team work to select company's target processes 

9.   Implementing Improved Processes: Introduction and study of company issues which promote and restrain company wide improvement capability; discussion of counteractive measures

10.  Next Steps: Planning exercise to assure quick and successful   
 implementation

Seminar Format:

This seminar is most effective when intact workteams meet to address current, real problems. Students work at team tables practicing on company issues while building a company specific improvement process including techniques that are appropriate for the company and its employees.
